Dr. Steve Miller has been nominated to serve on our board of directors. Dr. Steve Miller has been a trusted expert and advisor for Cigna’s efforts across clinical policy, quality and performance programs since 2022 after serving as the company’s Chief Clinical Officer for nearly five years. He formerly served as Express Scripts’ Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, responsible for supporting government relations, leading the Pharmacy & Therapeutics committee, managing the Medical Affairs team, leading Government Affairs and interfacing with client groups. During his 12 years in that position, Dr. Miller focused on improving health outcomes and value through e-prescribing initiatives, specialty solutions and overall product development.
Dr. Miller’s expertise represents years as a medical researcher, clinician and administrator, and spans numerous healthcare subjects. He previously was the vice president and chief medical officer at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Dr. Miller received his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He trained in the Pathology and Research fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He was the William J. and Dorothy Fish Kerr Fellow in Cardiology at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Miller also did Internal Medicine training at the University of Colorado and Nephrology and Transplantation at Washington University in St. Louis. He earned his MBA at the Olin School of Business at Washington University.
Dr. Nigam H. Shah has served as a member of our board of directors since June 2026. Dr. Shah is Professor of Medicine and of Biomedical Data Science at Stanford University School of Medicine and serves as Chief Data Scientist for Stanford Health Care, a role he has held since 2022. His research focuses on the use of data and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve patient care and health system performance, with more than 350 publications in journals including The New England Journal of Medicine, The Journal of the American Medical Association, and The Lancet. Dr. Shah has co-founded three healthcare technology companies and also serves on the boards of Prealize Health and Atropos Health. He is also a co-founder of the Coalition for Health AI (CHAI), which develops guidelines for the responsible use of AI in healthcare. Dr. Shah is a Fellow of the Association of American Physicians and the American College of Medical Informatics as well as an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation. He received his M.B.B.S. from Baroda Medical College, M.S. University of Baroda, India, and his Ph.D. from The Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Shah's service on our board of directors brings his extensive expertise in healthcare data science, AI, and clinical informatics to support the use of technology and AI for BrightSpring, patients, and other key stakeholders in healthcare.
Tim Wicks was at UnitedHealth Group (UNH) until his retirement in 2021. During his nearly 20 years at the company he held a broad range of executive leadership positions, including executive oversight for Optum Financial (the largest healthcare-focused bank and financial services firm in the US with over $15B in assets), chief financial officer of Optum ($120B+ revenue), head of supply chain, then president and chief executive officer of OptumRx ($60B+ revenue), and various leadership roles in operations, product management, business development and strategic relationships at both UnitedHealthcare and Optum. Tim was also a board member of Optum360, Optum’s joint venture in Revenue Cycle Management with external partners CommonSpirit and Northwell.
Previously, Tim was chief financial officer, and president and chief operating officer of Yellow Corp ($5B revenue), the holding company for trucking carriers YRC Freight, New Penn, Holland and Reddaway, and freight brokerage HNRY Logistics. He has held executive positions at Dell Technologies, Bain & Company, and Northwest Airlines. In addition, Tim co-founded a registered investment advisory firm that developed quantitative investment strategies for institutional clients.
Tim has served on the boards of four public companies: BrightSpring Health, Precision Castparts Corp (sold to Berkshire Hathaway for $37B), Aerojet Rocketdyne, and Pear Therapeutics. He served on the finance and audit committees of each company and is an SEC Financial Expert; he also serves on the compensation committee of BrightSpring.
Tim serves on the board of directors, and chairs the advisory board of MOBE, a privately held company, and he also is actively engaged supporting the growth of several private companies. Tim serves as an Advisor to the CEO of Hope for the Child, a not-for-profit that has provided early primary education and welfare for over 7000 highly needy children in Kenya.
Tim earned a BA in economics, with honors, from the University of Chicago and an MBA from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Business.
